Christmas may not be the celebration we’re all used to this year, but those who are still celebrating the holiday in some way likely still want to find some way to celebrate—and making a traditional ham for dinner may be the best way to do it.

Those who are cooking their own meal this Dec. 25, especially if they’re celebrating the holiday on their own due to COVID-19, won’t have to worry about the meal being too difficult, because there are so many different recipes out there that can make a ham easier to make than it looks. Check out this easy recipe that is perfect for anyone taking their first crack at making a ham, or even someone who is just trying to change things up for their dinner this time. If you prefer to make Turkey instead, you can find a recipe for that here.

What You Will Need:

Ingredients:

  • 8 lb. Bone-in spiral cut ham
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup honey
  • ¼ cup apple cider
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • Cooking spray
  • Optional: cranberries and herbs for garnish

Step-by-Step Recipe:

1. Start by preheating the oven to 325 degrees F. Coat a baking pan with cooking spray.

2. In a pot, add the butter, brown sugar, honey, apple cider, cinnamon and nutmeg and place the pot over medium heat. Bring to a simmer and cook 5-7 minutes until glaze turns syrupy.

3. Place the ham in the pan and pour half the glaze over it. Cover with foil, and bake for 2 ½ hours. Uncover after baking.

4. Pour the remaining glaze over the ham, increase the temperature to 400 degrees F, and place the ham, uncovered, back in. Bake an additional 15-20 minutes until the glaze is caramelized and browned.

5. Transfer the ham to a serving platter and garnish with fresh herbs and cranberries. Spoon pan drippings over the ham, slice and serve.
