Kate Middleton shockingly caused a “nightmare” at a boat race.

On Thursday, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped out with Prince George and Princess Charlotte for the King’s Cup Regatta at the Isle of Wight. The couple competed against each other and Prince William won the race.

However, in 2007, things weren’t as fun as Middleton and Prince William’s recent boat race. In that year, Middleton began a gruelling training for the dragon boat race following her split from Prince William.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reconciled shortly after and Middleton was forced to pull out from the race.

“She pulled out of the dragon-boat race in August with just a week to go,” Andrew Morton wrote in his 2011 book “William and Catherine.”

According to race organizer Emma Sayle, she pleaded with Middleton in an emotional phone call to not back out.

“Remember, this is not just for charity, it is for yourself. Please don’t drop out. For the first time in your life you are actually doing something for yourself,” Sayle told Morton.

However, according to Morton, the plea was in vain. It was a pivotal moment in Middleton’s life and she chose to play by the Palace’s rules. Sayle was disappointed with Middleton’s decision that she described it a “nightmare.”

“It was one of the worst experiences of my life. I rue the day I ever met Kate Middleton,” she said.

“She is a lovely girl, but everything that comes with her – the paparazzi, the egos, and Clarence House – made it a nightmare.”

As for Middleton and Prince William’s recent boat race, the netizens praised the Duchess of Cambridge for being a good sport after losing. Some said that she would probably want a rematch.

Many also found Middleton’s reaction “cute,” “hilarious,” and “adorable.” Kensington Palace shared a snap of the duchess looking down while covering her face with her two hands looking defeated.

Some cheered her up saying that her “participation” was more important the the “victory.” Royal fans said that they still admire the duchess and reminded her that there’s always a next time.
