Prince Charles had a unique relationship with his grandmother, the Queen Mother.

Growing up, the future king looked up to the late royal because the Queen Mother was the one who actually raised him. While Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were away on their overseas tours, Prince Charles stayed at home with his grandmother and Princess Anne.

The amount of time the two royals spent with each other made it possible for Prince Charles to inherit a skill from his grandmother. In the documentary “The Royal Restoration,” Prince Charles explained why it is necessary to always think in detail.

“Well, I think so much is in detail, actually, when you think about it. That’s why it matters in the building development… Because people don’t always understand why they feel a certain place makes them feel better, but you often need somebody at a young age to point these things out,” he said.

Presenter Alan Titchmarsh asked Prince Charles where he learned his skill of thinking in detail. The heir to the throne said that he inherited it from the Queen Mother.

“Yes, she was very good at pointing out things: ‘Do look at that!’ ‘Yes, you need that,’” he said.

After the Queen Mother’s death in 2002, Prince Charles expressed his heartbreak when he said that his “darling magical grandmother” meant everything to him.

Prince Charles said that even as a young boy, he already adored his grandmother. He couldn’t forget the times wherein they would laugh so hard until they cried.

And in return, the Queen Mother was also quite affectionate towards her eldest grandson. In an unearthed letter, the late royal tried her best to sway the Queen and Prince Philip’s desire of sending Prince Charles to Gordonstoun.

The Queen Mother feared that Prince Charles will have a difficult time at the boarding school, and she was right. It has been revealed that the dad of two was bullied by his schoolmates while he was studying there.
