Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed got married secretly on Sunday night in Santa Monica, California, news reports said. A report by E! News first broke the news of the couple's engagement in January and, in February, a picture circulated showing Reed’s engagement ring.

The couple had started dating about nine months ago, and became engaged four months later. Photos from the ceremony began circulating on Twitter early Monday, E! News reported. The couple, who had bonded over their love for animals and have reportedly adopted a horse named Eagle, even asked their wedding guests to donate to the couple’s animal rescue charity as a wedding gift.

Pictures on Twitter showed The Twilight Saga actress wearing a white gown, with lace sleeves and a billowing white skirt, according to the Independent, while Somerhalder, star of The Vampire Diaries, was seen in the picture dancing and kissing Reed in a similar colored attire.

Although none of them have commented on the development yet, Somerhalder's Twitter post on Monday morning indicated that it was a special day.

A source had confirmed to E! News in January that Somerhalder told Reed he had "been in love with [her] for years," much before their friendship evolved to the next level. "They're so happy," the source had said, adding: "They were crazy happy from the start. Their families love each other. It just feels really right."

Fans congratulated the couple on Monday on Twitter, and some pictures appeared as if clicked from afar.
