Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been pretty open about the struggles and challenges they've faced, especially with the British tabloids. The seemingly non-stop criticism is so intense that the Sussex's are planning to take a six-week sabbatical later this year, but it also raises a question -- What would happen if they were to take a permanent break from royal life?

"There's a couple here who are saying that the intense media scrutiny of their lives is making them question whether they want to continue to be royals, effectively," Camilla Tominey, a royal correspondent, said on the UK breakfast show "This Morning," according to Insider.

And who could blame them? Now, how that would affect the rest of the royal family remains to be seen. However, royal expert Joe Little offered up an idea of what it could potentially look like if Harry were to leave royal life behind.

"This is uncharted territory, but if they were to withdraw from public life, then the organizations with which they are associated in various capacities would be reallocated to other members of the royal family," he said.

Also, Meghan and Harry wouldn't have access to tax payer's money, but they wouldn't necessarily be broke. They could still potentially receive an allowance from the royal family. For reference, Grazia reported that Harry, Prince William, and Kate Middleton received a combined allowance of around $3 million in 2017.

Relinquishing their titles would also release them from having to follow royal protocol, which means they can make money through endorsements and partnerships, much like how celebrities do.
