An infant hit the ceiling fan and died after her stepfather threw her in the air while playing with her. The incident took place in San Juan, Argentina, on Monday.

According to reports, 26-year-old Jesus Zalazar was playing with the six-month-old girl when he threw her up in the air. He failed to notice that the ceiling fan was on. The girl suffered head injuries after she hit the fan. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she underwent an emergency surgery. However, she could not recover and succumbed to injuries the following morning.

Meanwhile, reports suggested that the incident took place during a family gathering and the relatives of the victim wanted to beat up the stepfather for what he had done.

Speaking to local media, the victim’s aunt said, “My sister [the mother of the victim] was cooking and told him that the meal was ready, then I started to set the table. Jesus had the baby and was playing around with her in the living room. Suddenly, I felt a blow on the roof fan and when I looked at it, Jesus had her against his chest with his shirt bloody.”

“I told him, what have you done? And we rushed out to ask for help from a neighbor to go to the hospital. He was telling me on the way to the hospital, ‘I did nothing, I did nothing,’” she said.

Zalazar was taken into custody. The case, which was initially investigated as a case of negligence, was changed to homicide case.
