The latest iOS 13 update currently sports the Dark Mode feature which defaults most of the iPhone’s menus to use darker colors. However, many fans and owners believe that using Dark Mode would save them extra battery life. Does the iOS 13 Dark Mode feature improve an iPhone’s battery life?

To test this feature, two iPhone XS Max units were tested on both Light Mode and Dark Mode side-by-side for any differences as seen on PhoneBuff’s video. The video involved using robots that simulate regular use on the device on both Light Mode and Dark Mode enabled.

The test clearly showed the difference as the Dark Mode feature kept the iPhone XS Max at higher battery percentages than the Light Mode enabled smartphone. Both devices were tested with the same amount of activity. The test also showed that the Dark Mode enabled iPhone XS Max still had 30 percent battery left when the Light Mode iPhone XS Max was fully drained.

The Dark Mode feature is expected to save battery life as the feature to use lower light or even no light on its OLED screens. With the screen using less power to show display, saving power using Dark Mode is viable task.

However, the Dark Mode still has limitations even though it makes a difference in battery life. This feature will still save less battery life depending on the brightness setting of the iPhone. To save more battery, running Dark Mode and lowering the brightness would have the best effect.

On other news, Apple is said to release a cheap iPhone unit by early 2020. Analyst Ming Chu Kuo said that the device would only cost $399. The upcoming smartphone is aimed to sell to users who want the latest iOS updates without going for a flagship Apple phone price.

Potentially, the Dark Mode feature will also be available for this new Apple smartphone if it has iOS 13 support. Apple has yet to officially confirm the release of this new device. The company has yet to officially announce any details about this smartphone.
