A 17-year-old Iowa boy, who was found soaked in blood and sitting outside his house, told the cops that he killed his parents to "take charge of his life," authorities said.

The deputies who responded to a report of suspicious noises from a house in Cedar Rapids on Thursday found the teen suspect covered in blood. After the boy admitted to killing his parents, the deputies entered the house and found the bodies of the two victims.

The teenager was charged as an adult with two counts of first-degree murder for brutally murdering his parents, 41-year-old Misty Scott Slade and 42-year-old Casey Orton at their residence.

During interrogation, the teenager said he stabbed both the victims with a knife and used an ax to kill his mother when he found that she was still alive. The police recovered the bodies of both victims from the living room of the house.

"I don't know if he was expecting the police to come, when we arrived the officer who encountered him first, described him as being calm," Cedar Rapids Police Chief Wayne Jerman said, 7 News KWWL reported.

The accused was transported to the Linn County Detention Center. The court has set his bail at $2 million after his initial appearance Thursday.

The neighbors who are still shocked by the horrific incident described the victims as kind and generous. They said the family moved in from the Salt Lake area of Utah to Cedar Rapids around four years ago, The Gazette reported.

"Sick to my stomach. You just don't think this kind of thing can happen, and you just don't think it can happen in your neighborhood," Jean Garrett, a neighbor told the outlet.

In September, an elderly couple was charred to death after their 16-year-old grandson set them on fire. The unidentified teen boy from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu admitted that he murdered the victims because he was upset with them for constantly comparing him to his cousins. The victims identified as 75-year-old Kaaturaja and his 60-year-old wife Kasiammal tried to escape the fire but the teen locked the house from outside.
