Those who want to pre-order an iPhone X now will have to wait until December to actually get it.

Apple and major U.S. carriers began taking pre-orders for the iPhone X on Friday at 12 a.m. PDT. The iPhone X is available for pre-order in 55 countries and territories. The 64GB model is priced at $999, while the 256GB version is going for a whopping $1,149 price.

As time passed, the iPhone X shipping dates got delayed. Customers who pre-ordered -- and who are yet to pre-order --an iPhone X as of this morning will have to wait five to six weeks to get the device, Apple says at the checkout. The long wait will be applied to the 64GB and 256GB models for the iPhone X Silver or Space Gray colors.

The extended wait time for the iPhone X could be a sign that people have been rushing to get the device. However, it could be that Apple released the device in limited quantities. Reports prior to the iPhone X’s release said Apple was having trouble with device’s production. Apple was reportedly struggling with the 3D sensors for the new Face ID, the smartphone’s main feature.

Apple said on Friday customer demand for the new device is “off the charts.”

Apple told International Business Times in a statement:

"We are thrilled to be taking orders for iPhone X, the future of the smartphone. We can see from the initial response, customer demand is off the charts. We’re working hard to get this revolutionary new product into the hands of every customer who wants one, as quickly as possible. We will keep accepting orders online, and iPhone X will be available at Apple retail stores on Friday, November 3 starting at 8 a.m., as well as from our carrier and retailer partners around the world. ”

iPhone X Store Availability

For those who don’t want to wait five to six weeks to get the device, there’s also the option of camping outside the Apple Store. Apple said last week the iPhone X will be available to walk-in customers at Apple Stores on Nov. 3 at 8 a.m. local times. Apple encouraged customers to arrive early to get their hands on the device.

iPhone X Shipping Dates

Sprint is telling customers who pre-ordered the iPhone X that the device will be delivered by Nov. 3. However, those who ordered the 256GB iPhone X 256GB in Space Gray after 11 a.m. CT on Oct. 27 will receive their smartphone by Nov. 14. Customers can keep up with the dates here by typing in their order number.

As for T-Mobile, the company is telling all customers who pre-ordered -- or plan to pre-order -- the iPhone X on Oct. 27 will get their device between Nov. 3 and Nov. 10. Users will have to check their account to see their shipping estimate.

Meanwhile, Verizon’s website said as of Friday afternoon the iPhone X will ship to pre-order customers by Dec. 1, similar to the five to six week delay mentioned on the Apple site.

AT&T has the longest wait for the iPhone X. The company said on its site the smartphone will be delivered between Dec. 4 and Dec. 18. AT&T says the shipping date is “subject to change.”

Some customers in Europe have noticed their iPhone X orders have changed to a "preparing for shipment/dispatch" status, according to MacRumors. The change means those who preordered the device in Europe will be among the first to unbox the iPhone X. As Nov. 3 approaches, the first to receive their iPhone X orders will most likely be customers in New Zealand and Australia.
