The iPhone XR was warmly received by Apple fans because of its fairly affordable price tag that was offset by removing features that most iPhone users hardly use. And now it seems that we’re about to get a new version of the XR which some analysts are already perceiving to be better than this year’s iPhone 11.

According to Forbes, supply chain insider Macotakara believes that the XR could be upgraded with a dual camera lens, adding a telephoto much like the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. If this is true then it would seem impractical to wait and upgrade for the supposed iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max which is already being rumored to cost so much more than existing flagship models.

The anticipated iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max could have a more power triple camera set-up, a plus, especially for the more camera-centric users. However, this would mean that having this feature might result in a camera hump that greatly diminishes the phone’s aesthetics or even value in the long run.

Aside from the cam features, Macotakara also reported that the iPhone XR2 (which name is yet to be confirmed) could also get other upgraded features that consumers expect to find in the iPhone 11. This includes fast charging via a bundled USB-C to Lightning 18W charger.

Macotakara is considered to be one of the most reliable sources of Apple news, citing inside information on the Cupertino giant’s Asian market. It was one of the first to confirm that Apple was dropping the headphone jack months before the iPhone 7 came out.

Forbes pointed out that Macotakara believes that this is not a good year to anticipate the 5G version of the iPhone. The website also made no mention of a possible iPhone SE2 coming out this year, a model which many fans have also been waiting for a followup. The SE has been known for offering a fairly affordable iPhone that does not compromise on features.

So if it all boils down to it, the supposed iPhone XR2 could be the value-for-money iPhone that’s expected to be offered once the new line-up is announced later this year.
