"BioShock" fans have plenty to be excited about in the months to come.

2K Games announced on Monday that it had founded a new studio called Cloud Chamber. Cloud Chamber's first project is the next game in the "BioShock" series, which the team states is already in development, though at an extremely early stage.

Cloud Chamber is a "collective of storytellers," according to the company announcement. The team will be spearheaded by Kelley Gilmore, a 2K Games veteran who's enlisted the help of several seasoned storytellers to bring the next phase of the "BioShock" story to life. Joining her in this new role will be Jonathan Pelling, Scott Sinclair, and Hoagy de la Plante, all of whom originally worked on the first "BioShock."

Curiously missing is "BioShock" creator Ken Levine, who apparently won't be involved with this new initiative. He's currently at work at his new haunt, Ghost Story Games, where the studio is in the early stages of development of another, different game.

"As we continue growing our product portfolio, we remain inspired by opportunities to invest further in our valuable IP, great people and their collective, long-term potential," David Ismailer, President of 2K, wrote of the new studio's debut in a press release.

"'BioShock' is one of the most beloved, critically praised and highest-rated franchises of the last console generation. We can’t wait to see where its powerful narrative and iconic, first-person shooter gameplay head in the future with our new studio team at Cloud Chamber leading the charge."

Of course, just because the announcement finally came out today, that doesn't mean it's time to start taking off work and marking days on your calendar to block out for new "BioShock." This project is very much still in its infancy, so fans have to wait some time before heading back to Rapture once more.
