James Corden apologized to BTS on Tuesday night for a joke he made in September that resulted in backlash from the global sensation's fans. The late-night talk show host had called BTS fans, known as ARMY, "15-year-old girls" and the band's appearance at United Nations as "unusual."

The "Butter" singers joined Corden on "The Late Late Show With James Corden" on Tuesday for the first time in two years. At the beginning of the show, band leader RM brought up the topic that sent Corden laughing in embarrassment.

"You've been in some hot water with the ARMY. Are you alright," RM, also known as Kim Nam Joon, asked Corden.

The talk show host received a pat on the back from Jimin before saying, "Does anybody know what this was?"

Corden then took the chance to apologize to the fans, saying he and the show's crew did not think the jokes were "offensive to anybody."

"We did two jokes, which I didn't think were in any way offensive to anybody, where we said that we thought it was unusual that you were kicking off the U.N. Summit with a performance," Corden explained. "We said – and this was where I think it was wrong – we said that your fans were 15-year-old girls, which, of course, isn't true, because I'm 43-years-old, and I consider myself to be one of the biggest BTS fans on planet Earth."

Corden revealed that he came to know about the backlash after "The Late Late Show" pianist Reggie Watts sent him a text message with the question, "Hey, are you okay?"

The show host told BTS members that someone had wished him dead because of the jokes.

"I was like, 'Well, someone's just told me that they hope I die today,' which did feel extreme," said Corden. "It did feel extreme in response to what I thought were two quite harmless jokes, which we never wanted to be at anyone's expense. Because – I hope you know this – we absolutely love you, and we love the entire ARMY. We do!"

"The prospect of doing anything that may have upset them – I didn't enjoy that feeling, and I hope they know that we would never do anything that would upset them," he added.

RM quickly extended his hand to the host and said, "James, it's all right. We appreciate your apology. We just wanted to clear the air."

"We love you," Corden quipped amid screams from fans in the studio.

Turning to Jimin, Corden asked, "Am I still 'Papa Mochi?'" Before sharing a hug with Corden, the 26-year-old singer-songwriter replied, "Papa Mochi, I believe you."

The amusing moment was captured in a tweet by user @jimintical.

Corden also congratulated the group for winning three trophies at the recent American Music Awards.
