Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt almost reconciled in 2005, but things turned out wrong.

Pitt and Aniston were among the A-list Hollywood couples. They got married in 2000 but divorced in 2005. However, according to sources, they almost got back together, but it did not push through due to Angelina Jolie. Even Pitt’s grandmother Betty Russell thought they would rekindle their romance.

“I'm sure this is just a temporary thing. Brad and Jennifer are beautiful people. They've always been so happy,” Russell said about Pitt and Aniston. “They are both precious and have too much love to throw it all away. They just need to spend a little time apart before they realise how much they miss each other. I'm praying for it.”

Pitt reportedly returned on Feb. 11, 2005 on Aniston’s 37th birthday weeks after they separated. They were also seen walking hand-in-hand and still wearing their wedding rings.

“It was if the past few weeks hadn't happened. Over dinner they couldn't keep their hands off each other,” an insider told Mirror at the time.

There are also sources who claimed that they turned to marriage counseling and decided to date each other in the hope of reconciliation.

“They still love each other. The separation is a step back to see if their relationship is going to be forever or if it’s not,” a source told People. “They’re searching for the answer, which is not an easy one to come up with. They’re still very close.”

However, something went horribly wrong and Aniston ended up filing for divorce citing irreconcilable differences. On the same day, Pitt denied cheating with Jolie. However, he was seen “kissing and holding” his “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” co-star at the Parker Meridian Hotel in Palm Springs where they had been on a promotional magazine shoot.

According to Arnon Milchan, who produced the film, Aniston didn’t believe. She started asking around but the people were loyal to Pitt. The “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” star eventually admitted he fell for Jolie and the “Murder Mystery” star was furious that she threw him out.

At present there are speculations that they are back together. Earlier this year, there were rumors that they were planning to get married in France. However, sources close to them denied it.
