  • Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin tied the knot in 2018
  • Bieber attended the Met Gala wearing a sleek black tuxedo
  • Baldwin's look was inspired by "timeless American beauty"

Justin Bieber and wife Hailey Baldwin made their Met Gala debut as a pair Monday. Bieber has only attended the event once while Baldwin has made six consecutive appearances in recent years.

Baldwin arrived at the Met Gala donning a black Saint Laurent gown with a structured decorated plunging neckline, matched with Tiffany & Co. jewels and a pair of cool black sunglasses. She walked hand-in-hand with Bieber, who wore a silky black tuxedo by La Maison Drew. He matched his outfit with a pair of painted sneakers.

The couple's appearance marked the first time of attending the annual event together since they tied the knot in September 2018.

On the red carpet, Baldwin told event host Keke Palmer that she loves attending the annual Met Gala because of fashion.

“I feel like the Met is always just a very cool night to celebrate fashion,” she told Palmer. “We both love fashion, and we both love being able to celebrate designers.” She also explained that her look was inspired by “timeless American beauty” and “the Grace Kelly’s of the world.”

Meanwhile, Bieber talked about how his style has changed over the years. “I think as I become more of an adult, things just started to evolve and change,” he said. “I’m married now so I think things just become more… adult now,” he added.

In 2019, Baldwin broke the hearts of many fans when she arrived at the Met Gala solo. Prior to the event, fans hoped that she and Bieber would make their relationship Met Gala official by walking on the red carpet together. However, she hit the red carpet alone in a memorable Alexander Wang look, which included a pale pink long-sleeve column gown and a crystal Wang pin accessorizing her back. She completed her look with a high pony, black velvet hair bow and black winged eyeliner.

A livestream of this year’s Met Gala will be broadcast Tuesday. Hosted by Palmer and directed by Ilana Glazer, the livestream will provide “unprecedented access” to the exclusive content, featuring interviews with A-list celebrities and other high-profile guests.
