Kate Middleton was briefed and told to wear a religious scarf during her Pakistan tour, just like what Princess Diana and Camilla Parker Bowles did.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have just kicked off their tour to Pakistan. According to a royal expert, Middleton was told to wear an item that the late Princess of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall wore when they also visited the country.

Charlie Proctor, editor of Royal Central, told Daily Star that Middleton will have to follow Princess Diana and Camilla in wearing a scarf in Pakistan.

“When she visits Pakistan with Prince William, Kate will understandably have been briefed on a dress code which is encompassing of local culture,” Proctor said.

“Although Pakistan doesn’t have the stringent dress code many would believe, the locals expect visitors to be dressed respectfully, particularly when visiting religious sites. If William and Kate visit a mosque on their tour, we would expect the Duchess to wear a loose-fitting headscarf, whilst also ensuring her shoulders are covered. This should be respected by all visitors of mosques. Even The Queen wore a headscarf and removed her shoes when she visited a mosque in Turkey back in 1997.”

Prince William and Middleton’s tour will be the first in Pakistan 13 years after Prince Charles and Camilla traveled to the country in 2006.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s visit will highlight the close cultural ties between the two countries since more than 1.5 million people in Britain have Pakistani heritage.

Prior to Proctor’s statement, Susan Kelly, editor and founder of fashion blog WhatKateWore.com, said that Middleton is expected to channel Princess Diana. The Duchess of Cambridge will probably wear at least one traditional shalwar kameez — the top and loose trousers look. Princess Diana sported the same look multiple times in Pakistan.

In related news, Prince William and Middleton were reportedly furious during their tour to Malaysia when Middleton’s scandalous photos taken during the couple’s vacation in Providence, France leaked. The couple was reportedly not aware about the photos until they were published.

Prince William and Middleton sued the publication and received $120,000 in punitive damages. Kensington Palace released a statement saying that the incident was a serious breach of privacy, and the royal couple felt that it was essential to pursue all legal remedies.
