Kate Middleton just landed a new role as a member of the royal family.

The Duchess of Cambridge was named the patron of Evelina London Children’s Hospital ahead of her and Prince William’s visit to the facility this week.

Kensington Palace announced Middleton’s new role via its Twitter account. “It’s a real privilege to be part of this organization, and I look forward to many happy years ahead,” the statement read.

Middleton’s new position is aimed at providing an opportunity to champion the medical professionals working on the front-line in children’s healthcare and shine a light on their work supporting children in their early years.

While at Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Marian Ridley, the director of the facility, expressed her excitement over Middleton’s involvement with the institution.

“The Duchess shares our passion for giving children and young people the very best start in life and her royal highnesses’ support will help champion the lifesaving care our staff is providing to our patients,” she said.

Meanwhile, other than her new work as the patron of Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Middleton is also involved in several other causes.

She is also the patron of 100 Women in Finance, Action for Children, Action on Addiction, All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, Ann Freud National Center for Children and Families, East Anglia Children’s Hospices, National Portrait Gallery, Natural History Museum, Nursing Now Campaign, Place2Be, Sports Aid, The 1851 Trust, The Air Cadet Organization, The Lawn Tennis Association, The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, The Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Tuvalu Order of Merit.

Before marrying Prince William in 2011, Middleton also worked as an accessory buyer for British retailer Jigsaw. She also worked for her parents’ party supplies business until the months leading up to her wedding.

In related news, Middleton may find this year’s Christmas celebration with the royal family as an ordeal. Royal biographer Christopher Wilson said that the Duchess of Cambridge is a homebody and prefers to celebrate the occasion in a more relaxed manner.

“Sandringham Christmases can be an ordeal, even for those born royal,” he told Express.
