Kate Middleton and Prince William’s decision to take a commercial flight is a PR stunt that is backfiring on them.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge surprised many when they took a budget flight to Balmoral on Thursday. What made their move even more controversial is that it happened amid the intense backlash Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing after flying in private jets lately.

A number of netizens accused Prince William and Middleton of doing it for a purpose – a PR stunt. “Most people can see this is a PR stunt by Cambridges,” one netizen wrote on Twitter.

Royal commentator Marlene Koenig was also convinced that the Cambridges’ Flybe photo was for PR. However, she felt that it didn’t do any good for the family.

“I have no doubt that a) they were advised to fly commercial or b) that William decided that this would look good for he and his family, when in fact, it smacks a PR effort that is backfiring,” Koenig told Money.

“I think this may have been a ploy to show, ‘Hey, look, we are flying commercial.’”

Meanwhile, some alleged that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were trolling the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after the latter’s “tactless jibe” at them. A few weeks ago, both Prince Harry and Markle said things that many felt were a dig at Prince William and Middleton.

According to Vogue magazine editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, the Duchess of Sussex declined to appear on the cover because she didn’t want to appear “boastful.” Many felt that Markle was throwing shade at Middleton who graced the magazine cover for its centenary issue in 2016.

Royal commentator Carole Malone called Markle a hypocrite for her statement. Malone reminded Markle that she had been on the cover of big magazines and even appeared on one before she married Prince Harry.

“I think that’s hypocrisy on a grand scale,” Malone said of Markle.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry was accused of throwing shade at Prince William and Middleton when he said that he only wanted two kids due to climate change. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are parents to three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
