Katy Perry recently opened up about her approach when judging the contestants who will compete in the upcoming “American Idol” reboot on ABC.

While speaking with People, the “Roar” singer said that she is a “straight shooter” who values authenticity.

“I just value authenticity so much that it can sometimes get me into trouble, because I take this job really seriously. I don’t want to walk away from ‘American Idol’ and just have a season go by and we don’t have any Kelly Clarkson because that means we’re just filling space on television and I really truly want to be able to do this exercise and make someone’s dream come true,” she said.

The auditions for “American Idol” reboot have already kicked off, but judges Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan will only meet the contestants if they get past the first round.

According to the “Dark Horse” singer, “American Idol” will remain true to its roots. “It’s kind of like that good old fashion American dream: we find you, you work hard, you compete, you get tested in every way and you rise to the top if it’s meant to be for you. So I believe in that great American dream,” she said.

Earlier this month, Bryan also talked about his approach as a judge in “American Idol” reboot. According to him, he would exercise “tough love” on all of the aspiring singers. “We don’t want to send kids through to just get beat out by some more experienced singers,” he said while at the CMA Awards (via People).

“American Idol” used to air on Fox, and it was the first singing reality TV competition to ever be released in the country. But after several seasons, the ratings for the show dropped. The contestants who were eventually crowned winners may have released an album, but they weren’t as popular as the songs released by the winners of “The Voice,” “America’s Got Talent” and the like.

Following its 15th and final season on Fox, Trent Harmon was named as the winner. The 27-year-old released an EP thereafter, but not much is known about his whereabouts and projects.
