On Monday, new reports surfaced that revealed that Patrick Frazee has filed an appeal to overturn his 2019 murder conviction. On Nov. 18, the Colorado resident was found guilty of first-degree murder, three counts of solicitation to commit murder, and tampering with a deceased human body regarding the death of his fiancée, Kelsey Berreth. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus 156 years after being convicted on all counts.

However, he has now started the process to overturn the aforementioned sentence.

According to Denver 7, Frazee's court-appointed public defender filed the motion on Jan. 6. The filing also stated that the convicted murderer is not capable of paying for his appeal.

It was also noted that attorneys have requested transcripts by March 9 from his prior court hearings as they work on the appeal. However, other details surrounding future court appearances remain unknown. A status hearing is slated for March 27 in Teller County District Court.

Leading up to the crime, which took place on Thanksgiving Day 2018, Frazee had reportedly asked his one-time mistress, Krystal Lee, to help him murder Berreth. According to her best friend, Michelle Stein, Lee had told her Frazee had once asked her to help him "take care" of his ex-fiancée. It was also said that his threats caused Lee to develop a "legitimate fear for her life."

Following his conviction, new details have emerged regarding what took place in 2018. In the subsequent months, Lee has stated that Frazee's mother was there and watched as her son burned Berreth's body and other incriminating evidence. It has also been alleged that while behind bars Frazee asked another inmate to help him him to assassinate key witnesses who were planning on testifying against him prior to his trial.

Lee is set to be sentenced for her participation in the cover up of the murder on Tuesday. Her punishment could range from probation to three years in prison, as reported by the Gazette.
