Kevin tries to play cupid in the next episode of “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World.”

According to the synopsis for Season 1, episode 10 of the ABC series, Kevin (Jason Ritter) attempts to help a man named Charlie (Trent Garrett) start dating again after a bad break-up. But as revealed in the trailer for the hour, the girl Charlie wants to date is none other than Kevin’s ex Kristen (India de Beaufort).

Although Kevin still has feelings for Kristen, he tells Yvette (Kimberly Hebert Gregory) that he has “to do the right thing” because “obviously the universe” wants Charlie and Kristen to be together.

Surprisingly, Yvette tells Kevin to follow what his heart says even though it gets in the way of his mission to save the world. “Love is an emotion that cannot be ignored,” the celestial being tells the righteous soul. “You have a chance at happiness. Why don’t you take it?”

Elsewhere in the next episode, Yvette becomes concerned by Tyler’s (Dustin Ybarra) desperate search to reconnect with the mysterious lady he met in Laos. Series co-creator Michele Fazekas told Entertainment Weekly earlier this month that the rare encounter between Yvette and Tyler last episode “actually starts a little story that spans multiple episodes in a way that is maybe unexpected.”

“Somebody like Tyler is of course going to fall for a celestial being because he’s such a pure soul. It makes perfect sense,” Fazekas explained of why Tyler fell for Yvette. “But now this complicates things for Yvette, it complicates things for Kevin, and the more they try and fix it, the worse it gets. It will have interesting complications moving forward.”

Also in the upcoming episode, Reese (Chloe East) befriends the new girl at school, and Amy (JoAnna Garcia Swisher) finally finds the courage to ask Nate (J. August Richards) out on a date.

“Season 1, episode 9 touches on a bunch of big stories that we’ll follow up with in January, and one of those is the progression of Nate and Amy’s relationship,” series co-creator Tara Butters told Entertainment Weekly. “A lot of our personal stories are started with episode 9. I’m really excited about the stories that we have coming up.”

“Kevin (Probably) Saves the World” Season 1, episode 10, titled “The Ugly Sleep,” airs on Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 10 p.m. EST on ABC.
