Though her Met Gala look has triggered some funny memes on Twitter, Kim Kardashian is confident the all-black ensemble was apt for the momentous occasion.

The theme of the 2021 Met Gala was "American Independence." Many spectators felt Kardashian did not stick to the theme and there was nothing "American" about her outfit.

But the reality TV star defended her choice of outfit for the prestigious event in an Instagram post on Tuesday.

"What's more American than a T-shirt head to toe?!," Kim wrote as she shared a series of photos that showed her glam team carefully creating the look for the event.

In a short clip, Kim could be seen alighting from a vehicle wearing her black T-shirt dress with an incorporated bodysuit, black jersey boots, Pantalegggings, jersey gloves and a mask that hid her face. A long ponytail capped her look.

But her getup did not sit well with many observers and some Twitter users found creative ways to diss Kim's look.

"Just in Kim Kardashian has arrived at the met gala," a user said showing a photo of a black alien climbing a staircase while holding a coat.

Another user wrote, "Kim Kardashian and Kanye West cosplaying as the Taliban at the Met Gala."

The "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" star had sported a similar look at the second "Donda" listening party in August. She wore an all-black Balenciaga ensemble, a full face mask and a long ponytail at the time.

Her unusual outfits actually reflect the new ways of expressing herself. She was able to come up with the new look with the help of her friend and creative director of Balenciaga, Demna Gvasalia, whom she met through Kanye West, a source told ET.

Kardashian's aim reportedly was not just to make a fashion statement but to create a new subculture. "No logo, no face, but everyone knows it's her," the source added. "Kanye gave her the courage to push creativity and people's imagination through art. It's the ultimate confidence."

In a previous episode of Kristen Bell's podcast "We Are Supported By," Kardashian talked about finding new confidence "without the need to be liked."

"I used to care about the likeability. I got to a point — and maybe being in a relationship with Kanye for a decade and someone that absolutely didn't care about likeability factor or what any of perception of him was as long as he was true to himself — that taught me so much in the best way, of, just being me and living in the moment," she said at the time, In Style reported.
