American musician and Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain was a famous rock icon between the late ‘80s to the early ‘90s. Cobain largely shaped the American rock music scene with Nirvana, pioneering the genre of alternative rock. Here's how much his net worth was before his untimely demise.

Cobain was born into a family of musicians and artists. At an early age, the Nirvana lead has already shown great interest in music. In fact, Cobain, at age 4, already knew how to sing and play the piano. However, despite a relatively happy upbringing, his parents decided to divorce when was 9 years old.

Showing proficiency in musical instruments, Cobain was soon involved in the Pacific Northwest punk music scene. Eventually, he dropped out of high school to pursue his passion for music. 

Cobain formed Nirvana with fellow musician Krist Novoselic. The band was touted to have popularized alternative rock, influencing the overall American rock and roll scene.

Despite the rocky start in their music career, Nirvana, broke through the mainstream rock scene in 1991. The band's second album, entitled "Nevermind," particularly their song "Smells Like Teenage Spirit," reached the mainstream radio waves. 

Nirvana continued to produce several remarkable songs throughout the early ‘90s. Cobain and Novoselic's musicality led people to brand Nirvana as the figurehead and spokesperson of Generation X.

However, Cobain's career was unexpectedly cut short after he took his own life on April 5, 1994, at the age of 27. The rock star had a $50 million net worth at the time of his death, as per Celebrity Net Worth. Cobain is survived by his wife Courtney Love and daughter Frances Bean.

In more recent times, CNBC reported that Kurt Cobain's wealth has already reached around $450 million. The rock star, despite his death, continued to amass wealth due to the publicity rights management of his daughter Frances Bean.

Frances is said to earn at least $95,000 per month, as per People. The media outlet also indicated that Courtney makes $95,000 and $6,700 in dividends per month from Cobain's royalties.
