A 26-year-old man has been charged with first-degree arson after his pregnant girlfriend was dead inside a car in Los Angeles.

The charred remains of Jasmine Guillaime were found inside the vehicle on April 18. Emergency services responded to reports of a fire and found the vehicle burning in an alley near Thomas Street, Hollywood. The fire crew immediately alerted the Hollywood Police.

The accused, Keith Perkins, was arrested Friday. Though the arrest was made by the same team investigating the murder of the 25-year-old woman, Perkins has not yet been charged with murder, WPLG Local 10 reported. The detectives have not revealed whether Perkins is involved in the murder or not.

Perkins was scheduled to appear in front of the judge Saturday. However, he failed to show up when his name was called and the court appearance was rescheduled for Monday.

Perkins is facing two first-degree charges of arson of a dwelling or building with people present. He is being held on a $20,000 bond.

"During their brief investigation, they did determine there was a body inside of the vehicle. At that point (fire rescue) backed off and the Hollywood Police department established a crime scene," Officer Christian Lata, of the Hollywood Police Department, told the television station after finding the body.

The vehicle was so extensively damaged in the blaze that it was difficult to determine the make and model of the car. The scorched vehicle was then towed away to the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office to find the identity of the victim.

A witness told police that she heard a loud boom and saw a woman running from the scene. Moments later, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames.

Giraime was Perkins' girlfriend and the woman was pregnant with her first child, Florida News-Times reported.

In a similar incident, authorities in Colorado arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with the killing of his girlfriend. The victim, 23-year-old Elena Alinj, was found unresponsive with serious injuries at a motel in March. An autopsy concluded that the victim died from blunt force injuries and strangulation. her boyfriend, who was present with her at the time of her death, was later arrested.
