Lady Gaga, the acclaimed American singer-songwriter, is celebrating her 36th birthday on March 28.

Born in New York City, Gaga set a benchmark in pop culture with her notable foot-tapping numbers and outrageous fashion choices.

Gaga started taking piano lessons ever since she was a 4-year-old girl, and got herself enrolled in a New York City music school at 17. She then set out to become one of the best-selling singers, with an array of chart-busting singles including "Stupid Love," "The Perfect Illusion," "Edge of Glory," "Born This Way," among others.

Apart from creating a number of catchy singles, Gaga also made a name for herself as a fashionista. Gaga's most fashionable moments -- ranging from the Marilyn Monroe-inspired look to the ultra-chic metallic shirt jumpsuit from Alberta Ferretti -- made her fans go ga-ga over her every single time.

Despite courting many controversies relating to her personal life or, sometimes, bizarre outfit choices, Gaga's career is marked by success, fame, and notable awards like the Oscars, BAFTA, AACTA, BET, Billboard Music Awards, etc.

To mark the occasion, here are some quotes by Lady Gaga that simply prove she is a diva. (Courtesy: Kidadl.com)

  • "You have to be unique, and different, and shine in your own way."
  • "My new year's resolution: Never be afraid to be kicked in the teeth. Let the blood and the bruises define your legacy."
  • "Don't you ever let a soul in the world tell you that you can't be exactly who you are."
  • "Do not allow people to dim your shine because they are blinded."
  • "Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it."
  • "And now, I'm just trying to change the world, one sequin at a time."
  • "Some women choose to follow men, and some women choose to follow their dreams. If you're wondering which way to go, remember that your career will never wake up and tell you that it doesn't love you anymore."
  • "Trust is like a mirror, you can fix it if it's broken, but you can still see the crack in the reflection."
