It looks like the relationship between the Legends and their former captain Rip will never be the same again.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, “Legends of Tomorrow” star Caity Lotz revealed that her character, Sara, “feels a little betrayed” by Rip (Arthur Darvill) when he relieves her and the rest of the Legends of duty and replaces them with the Time Bureau.

Lotz said that the Rip’s decision to create the Time Bureau is basically saying that the Legends are a failure, which is the complete opposite of what he said to Sara at the end of last season. “When he left, he’s like, ‘You guys are great, good job. You don’t need me,’” the actress pointed out.

“It is really tricky,” Darvill said of Rip’s new relationship with the Legends. “I think Rip knows that, he knows that she feels like he’s betrayed them and also when he sees them again, he himself realizes that actually they have a lot of fun, and he has a real bond with them, but there’s so much water under the bridge that I don’t know if that’s ever going to be reconciled.”

While it’s unclear whether the Legends will ever forgive Rip, Darvill said that the dynamic between his character and his old crew remains “interesting.” “They both still need each other in certain ways and for certain things. Rip still needs their help at times,” the British actor said. “[But indeed] the relationship’s completely changed, and it is a lot of tension there.”

But as Darvill previously told Entertainment Weekly, Rip will reach out to Legends when he starts to uncover the underlying mystery running through the new season.

“There’s a thing that he discovers, which is very important to him and he feels like, at times, he can sort out on his own, and then also realizes he needs to call on the Legends in order to help him,” Darvill said. “The Time Bureau, as much as they’re brilliant, they do things in too much of an official way in order for, in his opinion, things to actually get done. So his interaction with the Legends, at the moment, is very much as a means to an end for him in terms of what he’s trying to achieve.”

“Legends of Tomorrow” Season 3, episode 1 airs tonight at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
