LG aggressively marketed the LG G4 this year against the Galaxy S6 and HTC One M9 by promoting features like removable battery and microSD card slot. Not only the LG G4 but also predecessors from the LG G series handsets came with polycarbonate construction. Fresh rumors suggest that for the first time the South Korean company will be introducing a metal unibody design for the forthcoming LG G5.

In the recent past, LG had released two new smartphones, the LG Class midrange smartphone and the LG V10 flagship handset. Both the handsets feature metallic chassis and a microSD slot.

It is interesting to note that the LG V10 comes with a removable back panel to house a replaceable battery whereas the LG Class features a non-removable battery. Hence, there is a possibility that the LG G5 may come with a complete unibody design and still come with handy features like a replaceable battery and an additional storage slot.

Though the plastic-clad LG G4 also allow users to customize the appeal of the handset with various leather back covers, the handset has not managed to gain good popularity. Hence, there is a speculation that the South Korean will adopt a metallic body for the LG G5, G for Games reported.

Samsung had to do away with removable battery and microSD card slot features on the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Note 5 and S6 Edge+ as they arrived with metal and glass combination chassis. However, other well-known smartphone manufacturers such as HTC have shown that an expandable storage can be included in a handset with a full-metal chassis, iDigitalTimes reported.

The LG G5 rumors that surfaced in September revealed that the handset would be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset. It is also expected to feature a 20-megapixel Sony camera sensor. It is expected to be equipped with features like Optical Image Stabilization and laser autofocus. It will be able to snap stunning photos in environments with dim lighting.

Speculations also indicate that the LG G5 will be coming with 5.6-inch display and 3 to 4 GB of RAM for the Snapdragon 820 chipset. It is expected to deliver robust security through its iris scanner biometric recognition feature.
