Taylor Swift’s alter ego Tyler Swift has been a major topic of discussion on social media, since the release of her music video for “The Man.” Throughout the song, the singer can be heard questioning how different her life would probably be if she was biologically born a male.

Swift sings: "I'm so sick of running, as fast as I can. Wondering if I'd get there quicker If I was a man. And I'm so sick of them coming at me again 'cause if I was a man, then I'd be the man.”

During the visual, Swift gets suited and bearded up to act out the fantasy of herself as a powerful and wealthy businessman. However, the singer isn’t the first to take on a male persona for a music video. Here’s a look at three other women who decided it was time to take a step in a man’s shoes.

Beyoncé

The “Formation” singer tapped into her masculinity for two of her music videos. The first time was for her single “Upgrade U” featuring now-husband Jay-Z. The glamorous 2009 video showed Knowles in a number of stylish looks. One outfit that stood out from the rest was the jeans, white button-down shirt, and tennis shoes accented with bulky gold jewelry she wore to channel Jay-Z for the initial part of his verse. To give her a more masculine vibe, she also wore her hair slicked back and dark sunglasses.

“Cause that rock on ya finger, is like a tumor. You can't fit ya hand in ya new purse,” she lipsyncs while sitting in a tall luxurious looking chair before the man himself appears.

Additionally, Beyoncé switched places with a man in her music video for “If I Were A Boy.” In the song, the artist hypothesizes how she would be a “better man” if she were to switch roles with her significant other, who in the video is a police officer having flirty interactions with his partner. The black and white video shows the singer taking on the job and traits of her insensitive spouse before switching back to herself in the end.

She sings: “If I were a boy I think I could understand, how it feels to love a girl. I swear I'd be a better man I'd listen to her...'Cause I know how it hurts.”

Lady Gaga

Gaga has channeled her male alter ego, Jo Calderone, several times for her song “You and I.” The “Poker Face” artist debuted as the cigarette-smoking role in the song’s August 2011 video. The visual shows Calderone sitting on top of a piano in a cornfield while GaGa (as herself) plays the instrument.

“Something about lonely nights and my lipstick on your face. (Something), something, something about my cool Nebraska guy. Yeah, something about baby you and I.”

Days after the video premiered, she showed up to MTV’s Video Music Awards as Calderone with a black suit and sleek hair. She even stayed in character during interviews.

“She’s [expletive] hot,” Calderone said of Britney Spears at the event.

Ciara

Ciara manned up for her “Like A Boy” video, which premiered in 2007. Similar to Beyonce’s videos, this visual is also black and white and Ciara can be seen sitting in a majestic chair with her legs propped open. The “Level Up” artist, who is married to NFL player Russel Wilson, got into character wearing a white shirt, sagging jeans, a beanie, and several chains. The singer also can be seen with a number of rings on her finger and a variety of tattoos on her hands and arms.

“2007, ladies I think it’s time to switch roles,” she says at the opening of the song, which discusses women taking on the stereotypical actions of men in relationships.

Ciara sang: “What if I, had a thing on the side? Made you cry? Would the rules change up or would they still apply, if I played you like a toy? Sometimes I wish I could act like a boy.”
