It’s been nearly four years since Lorde released her critically acclaimed debut album, “Pure Heroine,” and since the project’s release, the 20-year-old New Zealand native has kept a low profile.

Aside from “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1” soundtrack in 2014, the singer hasn’t put out any new music in years. That all changed on Thursday when Lorde premiered her latest single, “Green Light,” and announced her follow-up album, “Melodrama.” While we’re still a few months away from the project's release, here’s everything we know about it so far.

“Green Light” Is The Lead Single

Written by Lorde, Jack Antonoff and Joel Little, “Green Light” is an electropop song which the singer herself has called “different and kinda unexpected.” The track was the first record written for Lorde’s upcoming release and the singer also had a hand in the production.

“Melodrama” Release Date

Although Lorde didn’t give an exact release date for her sophomore album, she did reveal the project will be available this summer. On Instagram, the singer shared the album’s artwork, which was painted by Sam McKinniss, and wrote, “Welcome to the new world.”

She Co-Produced The Entire Album

Teaming up with Jack Antonoff, Lorde had a hand in co-producing every song. In an interview with BBC Radio 1, the singer revealed that much of the album was inspired by the late David Bowie. “I feel like the whole time spent writing this record I’ve had [David Bowie] in my thoughts, I’ve had him in my heart,” she said.

She Needed A Break After Her Last Project

Following the success of “Royals,” the 20-year-old said she needed to take a break. Lorde ended up going back to New Zealand and got her own home. “[To] hang out by myself and figure out what I was going to do next. I knew I couldn’t make the same thing again.”

She’ll Hit The Road In April

Before her album releases, Lorde will be playing the festival circuit. In April, Lorde will be at Coachella in Indio, California, and will then play the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on April 30, Governors Ball in New York on June 2 and Bonnaroo in August.
