Those seeking a bit of luxury when it comes to the Personal Protective Equipment that has become a part of everyday life around the world are in luck, as Louis Vuitton has gotten into the game and launched the first-ever luxury face shield. However, it will also provide an extra level of protection besides from the COVID-19 virus.

According to Vanity Fair, the shield, which is a part of the 2021 Cruise Collection, will hit stores on Oct. 30 and will retail for $961. Among the features of the design that make it luxe are a monogrammed strap, LV logo engraved gold studs and the ability for it to flip up into a peaked hat. However, the most impressive feature is the technology embedded into the shield itself, which is similar to that of transitions lenses on glasses. That technology allows both lenses and the shield to adjust the color from clear to dark depending on the amount of sunlight in a space.

The shield is the first to officially be launched by a high-end brand, though it isn’t the first PPE on the market to be considered designer. While at the beginning of the pandemic, brands such as Armani, Bulgari, Gucci and Prada switched to making PPE as the world experienced a shortage of necessary equipment for front-line workers, since then, there has been more put out in terms of mass production for consumers who prefer more luxe items to add to their wardrobe. Some of the designer brands to start producing those masks included Phillip Lim, Lily Pulitzer, Proenza Schouler and Burberry.

Designers aren’t the only ones who have decided to give their PPE a more luxe look and feel. A man in India made headlines over the summer for his solid gold mask, while a diamond-encrusted mask worth $1.5 Million was requested by an unknown customer who had one custom made by designer Isaac Levy of Yvel.
