A mother in Louisiana has been charged with murder after bringing her dead daughter to a local hospital for neck injuries.

Jasmine Anderson reportedly charged into the emergency room of a local hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana, on July 17 with the body of her daughter, Audrey Lynn Chelette. She claimed the pair had just been in a car accident. Anderson also told doctors that her daughter had suffered neck injuries as a result and was in need of immediate attention. However, doctors determined she was dead on arrival.

Investigators also became suspicious of Anderson after no sign of a car accident anywhere in the area. They eventually found the spot where Chelette’s injuries occurred but the area showed no sign of a car accident. Police also said that Chelette’s injuries “did not seem consistent with what would occur during a crash,” upon further examination.

The autopsy, however, did confirm that Chelette did die from some sort of neck injury.

In the wake of early findings, Anderson was subsequently arrested in Bunkie, Louisiana, on charges of second-degree murder for her daughter’s death.

She was first booked into Avoyelles Parish Detention Center before being transferred to the Alexandria Police Department for further questioning.

Since then, Anderson has been held in Rapides Parish Detention Center.

Anderson’s bond has been set at $500,000. Police are still investigating the death of Chelette.
