Award-winning rapper Mac Miller has a new album coming out posthumously titled “Circles,” according to his family. The announcement was made via Miller’s Instagram (real name Malcolm James McCormick), by his family.

“Here we are. The act of having to write this at all feels surreal,” the Instagram post read. The post written by Miller’s family went on to say that he was working on a new album just prior to his death -- and he was “well into” it. “Circles” is considered to be a companion album to his previous release, “Swimming,” his fifth album which debuted at number three on the Billboard 200 list and was nominated for “Best Rap Album” at the 2019 Grammy Awards.

Jon Brion, a composer who’s worked on feature films like “Boogie Nights” and “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and artists like The Bats and The Grays helped the family finish the album. Brion decided to work on it after hearing early, rough cuts of Mac Miller’s songs before the rapper died, according to Complex Magazine.

Miller tragically passed away on Sep. 7, 2018, due to an accidental overdose in Studio City, California at the age of 26. Since then, three men have been arrested in their alleged connection to his death.

Rolling Stone reported that the men -- Stephen Walter, Ryan Reavis, and Cameron James Pettit -- were charged with the distribution of the drugs that caused Miller’s early death. They were also charged with conspiracy after it was supposedly revealed that oxycontin they gave to Miller was counterfeit and contained deadly chemicals. Walter even faced a third charge of possession of a firearm.

Mac Miller’s posthumous album “Circles” is set to release Jan. 17.
