A man beheaded his father for stopping him from spending too much time on the phone. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Karnataka in the wee hours of Monday.

Speaking to local daily the New Indian Express, sources close to the family said the deceased, identified as 61-year-old Shankar Devappa Kumbhar, was very upset with his son, 25-year-old Raghuveer Kumbhar, for not clearing his college examinations. Off late, the accused was also addicted to PUBG, a mobile game, and also allegedly taking drugs.

On Sunday evening, the two got into an argument after Raghuveer demanded money from his father. Enraged over his father refusing to give him money, the man creates a ruckus and broke the window panes of one his neighbor’s home. Following this behavior, the neighbor alerted police, who arrived at the home and took him into custody.

Shankar, a retired police officer, arrived at the police station and rebuked his son for his behavior before taking him back home. In the wee hours of Monday, Shankar woke up to find his son still playing PUBG on his phone. Irked by this, Shankar snatched the phone from his son.

In a fit of rage, the accused first latched the room in which his mother was sleeping before attacking his father. Raghuveer then beheaded his father with a sickle before slashing his hands and legs. When police arrived at the home to take him into custody, Raghuveer asked them to wait for some time saying he was not done cutting the body yet.

Police said the accused was addicted to the game and was angry when his father stopped him from playing the game.
