A man was charged with first-degree murder this week after he beheaded his girlfriend Sunday in front of their 3-year-old daughter in Mount Vernon, Washington. The accused later told the police he “had spoken with God” and was ordered to “strike down” after she refused to “repent.”

Timothy Paul Hernandez, 32, and his girlfriend, Vanessa Cons, lived with his parents and young daughter at 2400 18th Street, Vernon. Police said they were called to the scene Sunday afternoon where they made the horrifying discovery.

Hernandez’s parents, who had discovered Cons’ body after returning from church on Sunday, immediately alerted the police.

Officials used a chemical to illuminate the bloody footprints around the body, which led them into the kitchen sink where they found a large butcher knife and bloody clothing. The victim had multiple stab wounds, the police said, adding the parents heard the Hernandez and Cons arguing Saturday night.

Hernandez was going to a nearby mall with his daughter when the police arrested him.

Police said he quoted two Bible verses including one passage from the Book of Revelations when the cops approached him.

An investigator wrote in charging documents that: "Timothy advised that he had spoken with God, who told him to strike down his girlfriend … because she did not repent. Timothy stated that he struck her down, and caused for her head to be removed from her body.”

“Each of the verses that were quoted had passages in them that spoke about women who did not follow God’s word, so God stuck them down,” the investigator stated, Mirror reported.

The daughter told police she “saw Daddy cut Mommy.” The girl added she “did not know why Mommy had her eyes closed and blood on her face” after being told to say goodbye to her, the New York Post reported. The child’s name was not revealed by the authorities.

During police interviews, Hernandez claimed he was not mentally unstable because “a crazy person would not tell the truth.” He is held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Skagit County Superior Court on Sept.6.

Cons’ family has set up a Go Fund Me page to cover her funeral expense.

“This feels like a bad dream. My sister, Vanessa Cons, was a very loving person, who put her children first and herself last. Despite any challenges she might have been faced with in life she tried her best to stay positive and meet obstacles head on. Her smile would brighten any room and will never be forgotten. She is dearly missed,” reads the page description.
“We are asking for your help in this difficult time. Anything will help. All donations will go towards her funeral expenses. The donations will be handled by me, her older brother Jorge,” her sister wrote on the page.

Washington has the death penalty in place for first-degree murder convictions. In 2014, Gov. Jay Inslee pledged to halt executions while he was in office. In 2017, he was re-elected to a four-year term.
