An angry man called police on his wife after she refused to split the bill of the meal they shared together at a Sydney restaurant, Tuesday.

Sydney police said they received a call on emergency hotline number 000 from a very distressed husband who said he wanted his wife to pay for her share of food they had eaten at a Chinese seafood restaurant on Railway Street, Chatswood.

Officers reached the restaurant and told the husband that triple zero calls are only for emergency situations when lives are in danger.

“Police spoke with the man, who phoned triple zero to alert police to the dispute, and advised him that triple zero is to be dialled only for emergency situations where a life is in danger, a crime is taking place, or in time critical situations,” North Shore Police Area Command said in a statement, Yahoo 7 reported.

“Police are unsure of who eventually paid for the remainder of the succulent Chinese meal,” they added.

They used the word “succulent” in reference to the infamous video involving former chess champion Paul Charles Dozsa, who ran away without paying bills at several Sydney restaurants in the 1980s.

In the viral video, police struggled to escort Dozsa into the back of a car, during which the chess champion shouted “Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest. What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?”

In a similar incident that also took place this month, a woman splashed tea at a man after he asked her to split the bill in Hubei, China. Xiao Wang, 29, decided to go on a blind date after his parents urged him to get married. He met Xiao Shu for lunch and after a while they realized they weren’t compatible. Halfway through the lunch, she called her friends over to join them as they were nearby.

Finally, when the bill came, Wang suggested to split the bill. However, Shu got angry and the two got into an argument. She then picked up a cup of tea and poured it on him. The manager was called for mediation and after a while, Shu finally agreed to split the bill, World Of Buzz reported.
