A man surrendered himself to police after killing his wife and two children suspecting her of having an affair. The incident took place in the southern Indian state of Telangana on Sunday.

Police said the accused, identified as 36-year-old Praveen Kumar, began harassing his wife, Chandini, a few months ago suspecting her fidelity. On Sunday night, the couple got into a heated argument and in a fit of rage, Kumar killed his wife by hitting on her head with an iron rod. He then decided to kill himself by jumping in front of train. However, he changed his mind and decided to kill the children instead, as they would be orphaned otherwise.

Accordingly, Kumar strangled his nine-year-old son before killing his five-year-old daughter with the iron rod. Kumar then surrendered to the police and confessed to the crime.

Police said Chandini divorced her first husband after falling in love with Kumar. The two then got married and she gave birth to the baby girl.

"The son was born from the woman's first marriage. After marrying Praveen, she gave birth to the girl. Praveen began harassing her physically and mentally. He would also abuse members of his family when they tried to intervene," police said.

The bodies of the three victims were recovered and sent for autopsy. Meanwhile, Kumar was charged with murder. The investigation was ongoing.

In a similar incident in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh last month, a man killed himself after poisoning his wife and children suspecting that she had an affair. Police arrived at the scene and broke open the door of the room after being informed about the incident. They found the bodies of three children with their mouths taped and the man's body lying beside them. Police said the man was an alcoholic and suspected that his wife had an affair with another man. Police recovered a suicide note which stated that the man “gave poison to his family and later gagged their mouths to kill them.”
