A 21-year-old man repeatedly stabbed his 19-year-old cousin and beat her with a bat in a New York apartment while other members of their family stood outside.

The incident took place when the victim and her male cousin were inside the first-floor apartment of a two-family house on 108th St. near Roosevelt Ave. in North Corona, Queens, at around 6:15 p.m. Monday. The victim called other members of the family, who were outside the residence, and told them the cousin was threatening her with a knife, police sources told NY Daily News.

At some point after the call for help, the man stabbed the woman multiple times in the body and then beat her with a bat. The family, meanwhile, was attempting to get inside the house. They managed to smash the front window of the house using a bat and get inside the house shortly after. The suspect, however, threatened them with a knife.

"The family was outside trying to break in," Jimmy Cantos, who resides nearby, told the outlet. "They had a bat and they smashed out the front window. They forced the door, but he was there with the knife and they ran back out."

When police reached the scene, the male cousin climbed out of the front window of the house and attempted to flee. As the suspect was running toward a nearby driveway, officers rushed to tase him and took him into custody.

"A woman was screaming, 'Someone is going to die! Someone is going to die!'" Cantos added. "The cops came and they went through the window and the door."

The injured woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition, police said. The identities of the victim and the suspect were not released by the authorities. Other details, including what led to the attack, remained unclear.

Cops recovered a bat and a knife used by the attacker at the scene. No charges were filed against the suspect as of Monday night, according to Pix11. Police launched an investigation to determine a motive behind the attack.

In another unrelated incident that took place in Queens in December 2022, a woman was mowed down and then stabbed by her husband following a domestic dispute.
