A man in India strangled his father to death, and then smashed his head with a brick after the latter allegedly abused his wife.

The incident took place in a village in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh on Jan. 19. The accused, identified as Mintu, was taken into custody and charged with murder Wednesday after the body of the victim was found outside the village. The accused’s brother-in-law has also been arrested in connection with the incident, Times Now News reported.

During the interrogation, Mintu said his father was a mean man and that he used to harass his wife on a regular basis after he got drunk.

The family had a lot of debt, which was a catalyst to most of the altercations in the family, the police said.

The victim used to constantly harass his daughter-in-law by saying that "since the day Mintu's wife came to the house, the family was mired in debt," the police said, Times Now News reported.

Nearby residents told the police there were altercations and fights in the house on a daily basis.

The victim also stopped Mintu's brother-in-law from visiting his sister. Mintu told the police he was fed up with the harassment and decided to end it forever.

The autopsy results revealed the victim was first strangled and then his face was brutally smashed with a brick. The involvement of Mintu's brother-in-law in the murder is still unclear.

In a similar incident in November 2020, a 24-year-old man in New Delhi strangled his father to death for passing obscene comments on his wife. The father and son often got into arguments as the former regularly misbehaved with his daughter-in-law. The incident took place at their home. The victim's younger son came home to find his father dead and informed the police. The suspect was taken into custody.

In another incident, a 15-year-old boy in Zimbabwe killed his "violent" stepfather to protect his mother while the two were having an altercation. The boy was taken into custody and charged with murder.
