A man in Russia killed his in-laws and stabbed his two-year-old daughter in a fit of anger after his wife told him she wanted a divorce.

Welder Aleksey Dogadov, 39, from Nizhny Novgorod, western Russia, reportedly confessed to double murders and wounding his toddler in an incident that took place at his house. "The suspect confessed to the crime. He was placed into custody. The investigation is ongoing,” a police spokesperson said, Mirror Online reported Friday.

Dogadov added that his action was prompted by the fact that his wife, Svetlana Serova, in her mid-twenties, wanted to leave him. Serova told him she wanted to leave because he was a heavy drinker and used to stay intoxicated even during the daytime. Although she had put up with him, she was beginning to lose her patience and no longer wanted to stay in the marriage.

Before he attacked his in-laws and daughter, he chased after his wife with four knives as she fled for life. After spotting his daughter and his in-laws, he lunged at them, stabbing Svetlana’s mother, 49, twice in the neck. His daughter witnessed the attack on her grandmother and became “hysterical.” At some point the Russian man attacked his daughter, stabbing her in the leg.

Dogadov’s father-in-law, 51, tried to save his granddaughter from the maniacal man and ended up getting stabbed in the chest and stomach. When her father was busy killing her grandfather, the toddler ran and hid in the sauna built in the courtyard. She managed to survive the attack.

By that time, Svetlana had successfully managed to escape from the house, go out to the garden and call out for help. When Dogadov made his way to his wife, a number of neighbors had already gathered near the house and they managed to disarm him to prevent him from harming anyone else.

The police and emergency services arrived at the scene shortly after and placed Dogadov under arrest. While the suspect’s mother-in-law was declared dead on the spot, his father-in-law and daughter were rushed to a nearby hospital.

The toddler sustained deep cuts to her tendons and received treatment for her wounds while her grandfather, who had suffered stab wounds to his lung and internal abdominal organs, was admitted to the intensive care unit. He succumbed to his wounds later.

Anna (last name not known), a local resident who knew the family, said the suspect has a criminal history. "He [Dogadov] was previously convicted for murder after breaking his girlfriend's neck. Svetlana knew that, but decided to give him a second chance to have a relationship and a family,” she said.

However, authorities have not corroborated Anna’s claims. The timeline of the attack is not clear.
