Meghan Markle was accused of behaving inappropriately at a royal event that was attended by Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and the other senior royals.

A clip showed Prince Harry seemingly scolding his wife and urging her to pay respect to the British flag while everyone sings that national anthem. On the online forum site Quora, a royal fan asked if the Duke of Sussex was right to reprimand his wife in front of thousands of people.

Michael Candler-Gomez, a senior litigation paralegal, said that it’s tricky to decide whether or not Prince Harry scolded Markle because only a snippet of the video was released. But if the Duke of Sussex really called Markle’s attention at that time then he was right to do so.

“He wanted, needed, her to behave and not put one step out of place. That’s what’s expected of a senior royal. And I have to say that he was not out of order for correcting her. She should’ve been paying respect to any national anthem, it surprised me that she was so out of place at that moment. That’s a really easy mistake to not make,” she said.

Victoria Dennis said that someone had to tell Markle that she was behaving inappropriately at the event and Prince Harry was the best person to do so. The royal fan said that Prince Harry shouldn’t have had to call Markle’s attention more than once but he did because she refused to listen.

“It was foolish and disrespectful of her; in America they make a big deal of standing for their national anthem with their hands on their hearts, and if any member of the US president's family or entourage were to chat merrily as the Star-Spangled Banner was being played at a public occasion, that would provoke general disapproval. She certainly should have known to treat her new country's anthem with the same respect,” the royal fan said.
