KEY POINTS

  • Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may appear on their shows on Netflix if necessary
  • The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's deal with Netflix is more about production and less of them starring on the shows
  • Markle and Prince Harry are both determined to make it in Hollywood

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry need to balance their appearance on their shows on Netflix because the couple is very keen when it comes to their privacy.

Last week, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they signed a business deal with Netflix. The Telegraph associate editor and royal correspondent Camilla Tominey believes the success of their shows may depend on the visibility of their association with them. New York media analyst Richard Greenfield and celebrity agent Jonathan Shalit shared their opinion on the issue with Tominey.

"I don’t know the terms of the Sussexes’ deal, but my gut instinct is it is going to be less about them starring and more about them using their global star power in attracting people to work on projects like American Factory. This is a production deal, first and foremost," Greenfield said.

Meanwhile, Shalit, who has met the Duchess of Sussex on a number of occasions, said that the royal couple has to strike a "healthy balance" between making appearances or taking a back seat. He believes that they will appear on their shows if necessary.

"I am sure that when it is relevant to the shows they are making, then they will be in them. The most important word for any broadcaster is ‘authenticity’, so they would be well advised to only champion issues they have got a genuine interest in," Shalit said.

"Part of this will be collaborating with people who wouldn’t come forward if the Sussexes weren’t associated with the project. It’s not like they need to actively seek out the limelight – they are already in it because of who they are."

Prince Harry and Markle will be making documentaries, features films, scripted TV shows and children's series for Netflix. The royal couple's business deal with the giant media streaming company was met with mixed opinions on Twitter.

"HAM productions in conjunction with Netflix are proud to announce our new feature film, starring Meghan Markle, written by Meghan Markle and cinematography by Meghan Markle, in the all new extravaganza 'The Meghan'," one user commented.

"I'm so very pleased for them. It's like watching your children prosper. They are such good people. So kind. And the best part is that this is the ideal opportunity for the humanitarian and artist within them to meld. God bless them," another added.

Prior to signing a deal with Netflix, an insider claimed that two were pitching secret projects in various media companies in Tinseltown. Prince Harry and Markle are both determined to make it Hollywood, according to the insider.
