Meghan Markle and Princess Diana share a hobby together even though they’ve never had the chance to meet.

On her Lifestyle blog, The Tig, Markle wrote about her love for handwritten notes and said that she relishes it.

“What trumps all is my love of writing (and receiving) a handwritten note. I absolutely relish it. I know my mailman’s name, I race to the door when the mail comes (usually just fliers or bills) but I always hold out hope there will be a letter. A sweet letter. And then I will have a tactile experience of un-creasing the paper, reciting the words, and holding someone’s thoughts in my hands,” she wrote (via Express).

Andrew Morton, a royal biographer, previously said that Princess Diana was such a huge fan of receiving and writing handwritten letters. The late Princess of Wales is also known for sending out sweet notes to family and friends. Following her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles, Princess Diana sent out thank you notes to those who attended their special day.

“Sat down to answer many of the 47,000 letters of congratulations and 10,000 gifts which the wedding generated,” he said.

Years after Princess Diana’s death, her handwritten notes have become extremely valuable. They are typically sold at auctions, and they rake in huge sums of money. Last year, an entire batch of letters was sold at an auction for over $19,000.

One of the letters in the pile saw Princess Diana narrating how Prince William has smothered his younger brother, Prince Harry, with lots of hugs and kisses. Another one of the letters was centered on the Duke of Sussex’s naughtiness while he was still in school.

Princess Diana passed away on Aug. 31, 1997, following a fatal car crash in Paris. She was with her then-boyfriend Dodi Al Fayed that time. Her death is still being mourned across the world today, and her sons typically pay tribute to her by visiting her memorial site or talking about her life in recorded videos.
