Meghan Markle received an unforgettable piece of advice from her dad, Thomas Markle Sr.

The Duchess of Sussex and her dad are reportedly not on speaking terms at the moment. However, when she was a child, Markle's go-to-person when she needs help was her father.

In the past, Markle shared an incident that happened during her childhood. She recalled that one day she returned home unhappy when she had to fill out a form that included ticking a box to identify her race. There were four options: "white," "black," "Hispanic" and "Asian." Since Markle was of mixed race, she didn't know what to check and left it unanswered.

When the former "Suits" star arrived home, she shared the story with her dad. According to Markle, his father became angry and encouraged her to do this one thing that she would never forget.

“It made the green of his eyes pop and his brow was weighted at the thought of his daughter pray to ignorance," Markle wrote (via Express). "And in one of those parenting moments that no guidebook could ever prep you for, my dad said words which will stay with me forever. Draw your own box."

"He wanted me to see beyond that census placed in front of me. He wanted me to find my own truth," Markle added.

In addition, Markle recalled an incident when she saw family dolls called The Heart Family. It was sold in sets of white and black. She couldn't identify her own family there as her mom is black and her dad white. However, on Christmas Day, her father gave her a surprise.

"On Christmas morning, swathed in glitter-flecked wrapping paper, there I found my Heart Family: a black mum doll, a white dad doll, and a child of each colour," Markle added. "My dad had taken the sets apart and customised my family. My dad had taken the sets apart and customised my family."

Meanwhile, Thomas recently said that he hasn't received any response from Markle following his interviews. According to him, he fears that he will die without ever speaking to his beloved daughter again.

Markle's half-brother apparently felt bad about her treatment of their dad. According to Thomas Markle Jr., their father has always prioritized Markle and now she's "abusing his love."

"Throughout our lives, dad always put Meg first, above me and my sister, but if what he is saying is true it appears she is abusing his love for her," Thomas Jr. told Mirror. "It's selfish, cruel even. He gave her everything and now she is giving him nothing but hurt back."
