Meghan Markle had upset Queen Elizabeth II in the days leading up to her royal wedding to Prince Harry.

The Queen and the Duchess of Sussex seemed to be doing well together. However, according to British best-selling author Katie Nicholl, there was actually a tension between the two days before Markle’s big day.

According to the Vanity Fair correspondent, the bride insisted that there be a “macrobiotic alternative” for some of the Hollywood star guests who would be attending the ceremony and who follow the said diet.

“[Meghan] got very upset when she felt that she could taste egg in a dish when she was told there was no egg in there, and she said, ‘No, I can taste it, I can taste there’s egg in this dish,’” Nicholl told Yahoo’s Royal Box on Friday.

“I think there was a bit of an upset when suddenly the queen walked in because of course, this was Windsor Castle, this is her home,” continued Nicholl. “And she just quietly took Meghan to the side and said, ‘Meghan, in this family, we don’t speak to people like that.’”

This isn’t the first tension reported involving Markle and Queen Elizabeth II. According to Andrew Morton in his book “Meghan: A Hollywood Princess,” when Prince Harry was about to introduce Markle to the monarch it was filled with an “air of tension.“ The former “Suits” actress reportedly considered the said meeting the “most important audition” of her life.

There was also tension when Queen Elizabeth II and Markle made their first solo outing. The Duchess of Sussex was reportedly told by the Queen’s aides that Her Majesty would be wearing a hat. However, Markle didn’t know that she was expected to wear one, too.

“I don’t think the Duchess fully understood,” a senior figure close to the Queen told Robert Jobson. “This was not a request. They are for others to make, not the Queen.”

However, despite the tension, Queen Elizabeth II is reportedly “so fond of Prince Harry’s wife. This is evident in the responsibilities the Queen gave to Markle. In fact, she put the duchess into work even before she married Prince Harry and became an official royal.
