Meghan Markle now shares a sweet nickname with her mother-in-law, Princess Diana, among royal insiders.

According to Vanity Fair, royal insiders refer to the Duchess of Sussex as Di 2, which is a shortcut for Princess Di, the Princess of Wales’ nickname.

“I’ve heard the Duchess is referred to as Di 2, because of the similarities of Harry’s mother. It’s meant affectionately, and I think it’s quite true – they are rather alike,” a source said (via News.co.au).

Mark Stewart, a royal photographer, said that he is oftentimes reminded of the late mom of two whenever he takes pictures of Markle.

“Their wardrobes are quite similar. Meghan loves great tailoring and blocks color, just like Diana did. I remember photographing Diana in Japan when she stepped out in a red and white spotted outfit. Meghan’s wardrobe choices on this tour really reminded me of Diana’s, like the red dress she wore when she arrived in Tonga. It was pure Diana, honoring the national colors of the island before Meghan had even said a word,” he said.

Other than the similarities in their style, Stewart also said that Markle and Princess Diana are both confident in front of the camera. The way they interact with their royal fans is also quite alike.

“The way she bends down to interact with children, there’s a natural empathy and humanitarianism. The way she seeks out the cameras and actually makes eye contact. She’s terrific – just like Diana was,” Stewart said.

Markle is currently in the Kingdom of Tonga with Prince Harry for an official engagement. The royal couple will attend a state dinner and then fly back to Sydney for the Invictus Games, which will take place on Saturday. Markle and Prince Harry’s 16-day tour will wrap up on Oct. 31.

The royal couple’s upcoming engagements in London after their overseas tour have not yet been revealed.
