Meghan Markle is facing another round of backlash for using her royal title in her campaign for paid leave in the U.S.

The Duchess of Sussex has doubled down on her efforts in promoting paid family leave in the country. According to reports, she called Republican and Democratic senators on their private phone numbers and introduced herself as the "Duchess of Sussex," which raised the eyebrows of many.

Several Twitter users slammed the duchess for using her royal title again. Many of them said they would not care about her whereabouts as long as she doesn't use her royal title.

"She says she was acting in a personal capacity, then why use the title? She’s a piece of work," one wrote with angry face emoji.

"Tell her to drop the British titles, and we won't give a damn what she does. As long as she introduces herself as Meghan, THE Duchess of Sussex (no such thing, by the way. It's Meghan Sussex or Meghan, Duchess of Sussex), we will criticize. Deal with it," another critic commented.

Another user said Markle should just drop her royal title in her campaign because it is meaningless in the United States. Also, every time she uses it, "it distracts from the actual issue, and no one listens to her message," the netizen added.

Meanwhile, several also defended Markle. For them, she is an American citizen and has the right to contact the senators or politicians who serve the country. Also, they did not mind her use of the royal title.

"She knows how [the] U.S. government works. We can contact our congressman and senators because they work for us. They are required to take our calls. She's a U.S. citizen after all," one wrote defending Markle.

"Just leave her alone, she only uses her title to do good for others!" another supporter added.

A different netizen supported Markle saying she is an American citizen living in the U.S. and has the right to make petitions to the government. "Titles here mean nothing more than a polite form of address such as Doctor or Professor. She can call herself any honorific she damn well pleases here," the user opined.

Courtiers also expressed the same concern to The Sunday Times. Sources told the outlet that the duchess is "using her title out of context" to interfere in American politics. According to senior royal sources, the royal family should have "no say in American politics."
