Since Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in 2018, the former “Suits” actress has been the target of negative press and ongoing feud rumors. Unlike Kate Middleton and Princess Diana, it appears the pregnant Duchess of Sussex is having a harder time adjusting to her new life in the royal family.

When Kate married Prince William and Diana married Prince Charles, the women had to adjust to an overwhelming amount of media attention. However, Meghan’s troubles since joining the royal family have stretched far deeper than the paparazzi.

According to the Express UK, the Editor of the Royal Central website James Brookes revealed Meghan didn’t expect to receive constant backlash after marrying Harry but is learning to adjust to her new normal.

“Joining a family like this is a learning curve for anyone, let alone Meghan, who’s had a different set of experiences before coming into it. Remember, Diana was from the aristocracy and still had to adjust,” he explained.

“Likewise with Kate, who was more familiar with the Royals overall growing up. Meghan’s had the added challenge of growing up in a different country where values and society workings are different and so that learning curve has been steep, but I think she seems to have carried off a busy year of engagements very well.”

Unlike Diana and Kate, Meghan was born in America and learned to place importance on different values. Brooks noted that Meghan’s Hollywood background could have never prepared her for life in the royal family.

“As an actress, she’ll be used to the media attention, the cameras, the journalists, the PR people, and from her early conversations with Harry, she’ll have had expectations for how life as a royal is; that the spotlight is bright and can be harsh, especially for the younger generation.”

“I think the unexpected part will have been the relentlessness of the coverage - often on seemingly minor things - and naturally the amount of abuse directed at her by some.”

Despite the backlash Meghan has received, Brooks believes her “social activism” and “wealth of experience” could contribute to modernizing the monarchy.
