Meghan Markle’s pregnancy was very costly.

According to Lucy Clarke-Billings, deputy news editor of Mirror, the Duchess of Sussex’s pregnancy is estimated to have cost $1.4 million. This includes Markle’s glamorous and expensive maternity wardrobe while she was still expecting baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Markle also reportedly enjoyed acupuncture treatments, wellness clinic trips and top-notch support from the best doula. Markle’s visit to the herbal wellness center is said to have cost up to $8,100 a year for weekly 45-minute sessions. Meanwhile, the doula whom Markle hired as her childbirth companion was likely paid $1,700 for 10 one-hour sessions. Overall, Markle’s acupuncture, wellness clinic and hypnobirthing reportedly cost up to $13,090.

The nursery renovation alone already cost $195,000. It includes a top-of-the-range crib and modern color palette that is fit for a prince or princess.

Markle also had a lavish baby shower in New York with her celebrity friends including Serena Williams, Amal Clooney and Abigail Spencer. The duchess’ baby shower was criticized because it was more of a “celebrity” than “royalty.”

Markle’s star-studded baby shower in the Big Apple was estimated to be $200,000. Many were not impressed since royals don’t really do baby showers. Kate Middleton reportedly did, but it was very private.

Katie Hind, Mail on Sunday Showbiz editor was also disappointed. There was an “absolute outrage” as the country was facing poverty and homelessness issues.

In addition, Markle’s maternity wardrobe was estimated to have cost $650,000. She also spent $43,000 for a three-day babymoon a luxury Hampshire spa.

Markle’s costly pregnancy sparked mixed reactions from the netizens. Others didn’t like it and criticized the news, but the rest didn’t it mind because Markle paid for it.

“Gross. No respect for taxpayers,” one netizen reacted on Daily Mirror’s post on Twitter.

However, many believed that nothing was wrong with it because Markle foot the bill for most of the expenses.

One user said that the report was a “bit of a nasty undertone.” However, she wasn’t bothered because if she has that much money, she would also do whatever she likes and no one should be bitter about it.

Sophie Cannon, broadcaster and writer, also defended Markle by insisting that she paid for it with all of her money. “She’s a millionaire, in her own right unlike her husband,” she added.

Meanwhile, another user described the piece “poor, desperate reporting.” The netizen pointed out how Markle worked hard for her money, so she is entitled to spend it on what she likes.
