Meghan Markle’s lavish baby shower was criticized but not Prince William and Kate Middleton’s family vacation.

Allure gave a breakdown of Markle’s $200,000 star-studded baby shower in New York. According to the report, the party was held in the hotel’s penthouse suite that costs $75,000 per night, making it the most expensive hotel room in the U.S.

Royal commentator Robert Jobson described the Duchess of Sussex’s baby shower as “showbiz style” and added that it’s not normally the way royals do it. He also said that Queen Elizabeth II “wouldn’t necessarily want it to be all glitzy and all the show.”

The netizens reacted to Markle’s expensive baby shower on Twitter as well.

Katie Hind said that she was disappointed. She added that she didn’t care who paid for Markle’s baby shower but it was an "absolute outrage" considering the country’s poverty and homelessness.

Claudia Connell agreed and stressed that a five-day extravaganza is going to cost hundreds of thousands. She added that the loads of baby gifts were freebies in return for publicity.

Piers Morgan shared Kensington Palace’s post about the poorest families struggling to feed their children during school holidays and compared it to Markle’s extravagant baby shower saying that it was a “strange thing to post” from the palace considering how expensive Markle’s baby celebration was.

Meanwhile, another netizen dragged the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge on the issue in her response to Piers.

“Strange thing to post as Will and his family are enjoying the same but unlike Meghan’s baby shower, Will’s vacation will actually be funded by your tax payers!” the netizen wrote, implying that the baby shower expenses were not paid by the taxpayers.

According to Daily Mail, the duchess’ baby shower was “privately funded.” Her friends Amal Clooney and Serena Williams stumped up the cash for parts of the trip. But aside from that, Markle spent too much on her wardrobe on the said outing.

Markle’s baby shower and Prince William and Middleton’s family vacation are both private events. Generally speaking, people do not want royals to splurge on extravagant things because they are paid by their taxes.

As Markle faced criticism due to her lavish baby shower, Prince William and Middleton are enjoying a luxurious ski trip with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. The Duke of Cambridge didn’t carry out any royal engagement this week to be with his kids on their half-term break.
