Meghan Markle’s currently has a complicated relationship with her dad Thomas Markle. However, things were not always like this for them.

The Duchess of Sussex’s former teacher, Maria Pollia, previously told People that Thomas was the one that encouraged Markle to write to Procter & Gamble after she saw a sexist advertisement on television.

“She went home to her father and said, ‘What’ll I’ll do because this is wrong?’ Her father advised her to write to someone. She wrote to famed women’s rights attorney Gloria Allred as well as Procter & Gamble, who updated the ad,” she said.

Pollia’s interview was picked up by Express recently amid Thomas’ ongoing tirade against Markle, Prince Harry, and the royal family. The former lighting director criticized the royal family from cutting his out of his daughter’s life. He also called Prince Harry rude.

Jenny Stanton and Siofra Brennan, journalists for the Daily Mail, revealed that a source told them Thomas is being extremely bitter about not being repaid by Markle for his generosity.

“While he was working, Tom supported all his children. He was generous. But he made no secret that he expected in his dotage the money he spent on them would be repaid. He says they have not given him an [expletive] dime back. He is growing increasingly bitter about it,” the source said.

Earlier this week, one of Markle’s friends came to her defense and said that the only reason the “Suits” alum has not spoken to her dad is that he hasn’t been respecting her.

“Behavior like this doesn’t happen overnight. Why do you think her parents got divorced in the first place? Meghan’s had to deal with a lot of self-esteem issues growing up with a narcissist. She has tools to cope with emotional blackmail. She does pray for him,” the source told Daily Mail.
