  • Melania Trump encouraged the public to wear face masks amid pandemic
  • Twitter users have mixed reactions to the FLOTUS' post about wearing face masks in public
  • Some netizens did not agree with Melania and even said that wearing face masks is not necessary

Twitter users mocked Melania Trump after she encouraged the public to wear face masks amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The First Lady took to Twitter to promote the use of face masks as the world continues to battle the COVID-19 pandemic. Melania also shared a snap of her wearing a white mask on social media.

“Even in the summer months, please remember to wear face coverings & practice social distancing. The more precaution we take now can mean a healthier & safer country in the Fall,” the FLOTUS wrote.

However, the post received mixed reactions from Twitter users. While some made fun and ridiculed Melania’s post, many others were supportive and agreed with her.

“You are 6 months late....” one commented.

“So late and a husband and followers who kept (and some still do) screaming with threats and bullying that this was a hoax. A perfect example of why this administration is completely inept at leading. almost destroyed the USA in less than 4 years..we cannot handle 4 more,” another added.

“[Five] months into this and you’ve decided to jump on board because of the backlash. It’s sad that you people aren’t smart enough to be proactive. We could have been ahead of this,” @Lori_Resists opined.

“You're about three months too late,” @lieutenantflan wrote.

However, some also supported the FLOTUS. One said that she wasn’t trying to defend Melania, but the First Lady actually released a video a few months ago encouraging the people to wear face masks.

“Not trying to defend her at all. She did put this video out months ago and got lashings from her husband. I’ve been using it to persuade people to wear masks. Just need house arrest for 3 weeks for people that refuse to wear masks in public settings while not social distancing,” @Gawdamn1 added.

“Thank you for encouraging people to wear a mask,” @davidmweissman wrote.

Meanwhile, some Trump supporters claimed that wearing masks is not that necessary.

“I'm on team Trump but info on face mask that is being put out there is wrong. There are several studies showing little to know benefit. Cloth are the worst,” @DavidBV1968 wrote.

“I think you’re a great First Lady and you show tremendous class but on this I disagree 110% 8 days a week,” @JasmyneKares agreed.
